Springfield, Mass. -- April 20, 2013 -- Sean Nunan and John Dayton won their individual events as Springfield College finished second of 10 teams in a track and field meet this afternoon at SC's Blake Track.
WPI earned the victory in the meet with 229 points. The Engineers were followed by host Springfield with 123.5 points, Keene State (98), Eastern Connecticut State (84), Saint Rose (78), Westfield State (68.5), AIC (37.5), Springfield Tech (9), Manhattanville (7.5), and Sage (5).
In the 400-meter hurdles, it was Nunan, along with Nolan Manley, who placed first and second for the Pride. Nunan ran the event in 56.69 seconds, while Manley was one spot behind in 57.41 seconds.
In the hammer throw, SC also finished 1-2 with Dayton winning in 55.37 meters and P.J. Andrews taking second in 51.47 meters.
The only other first-place finisher for SC was Anthony Salvucci in the 1500 meters in 4:03.21.
Second-place finishers for Springfield College included Ken Toal in the 100-meter dash (11.24 seconds), Brandon Hammerstrom in the shot put (13.09 meters), and the 4x400-meter relay team (3:31.78).
Next Saturday, Springfield will play host to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference track & field championships at Blake Track.
