Curtis Shines at All New England Track and Field Championships

Cambridge, Mass. - May 12, 2012 - Kelly Curtis captured the javelin title at the All New England Championships over the weekend at MIT to pace the Springfield College women's track and field team in a meet consisting of the top student athletes in Division I, II, and III throughout the region.

Springfield finished the competition in 18th place, accumulating 18 points.

Curtis topped the field in the javelin with a toss of 141-2 on her first throw of the afternoon. Teammate Colleen Brague finished eighth in the event to score for the Pride as well, totaling a distance of 129-8.

In the heptathlon, Curtis also had a solid showing, placing fourth. She ran a 27.22 in the 200 meter dash, crossed the 800 meter finish line in 2:53.59, sprinted the 100 meter hurdles in 15.09, reached a height of 5-1.25 in the high jump, totaled a mark of 16-5.25 in the long jump, tossed the shot 34-9.75, and registered a distance of 138-3 in the javelin. All told, she recorded 4,479 points as the lone Division III student-athlete in the competition.

The Pride's 4x100 relay team of Crystal Davis, Elizabeth Saia, Erika Marks, and Laurie Jenkins ran a 48.52 to take seventh.

All six student-athletes earn All-New England honors for the finishes.
