Women's Lacrosse Bows Out To Buffalo State, 18-10, In NCAA Championship First Round

Buffalo, N.Y. - May 9, 2012 - First-year Michelle Dorsey scored a career-best four goals, however, the Springfield College women's lacrosse team could not overcome a 10-goal halftime deficit as it fell to Buffalo State, 18-10, in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship on Wednesday at Coyer Field.

Buffalo State improves to 14-6 on the season, while the Pride's campaign ends at 11-8.

Karen Shaddock netted 10 goals and added three assists to lead Buffalo State to the victory. Her 10 goals and 13 points equal Buffalo State single-game records, and she ran her Division III leading season goal total to 106. Kendyl Clarkson bolstered the Bengals’ attack with two goals and six assists. Mariah DeBolt and Becca Martinez added two goals apiece, and Ashley Caporizzo chipped in two assists.

Dorsey led Springfield with four goals, and Meghan Flanagan had three goals and an assist. Kerstin Lindrooth added a pair of goals, and Brittany LeGuelaff also scored. Ellie Getchell anchored Springfield's defense with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Springfield opened the scoring on Lindrooth’s first of the game just 36 seconds into the contest, but Buffalo State scored 10 of the next 11 goals, to seize control of the first half. After taking a 14-4 lead into the intermission, the Bengals held off the Pride in the second stanza, not allowing Springfield to close the gap to less than eight goals.

Buffalo State controlled time of possession in large part to a 20-9 advantage on draw controls. The Bengals also held a 25-17 advantage in shots. Buffalo State’s Colleen George and Anne Versprille made three saves each in their respective goals.
