Dedham, Mass. -- May 8, 2010 -- Nikki Hay was the driving force for the Springfield College women's track & field team at the All-New England's, Open Division, at Northeastern University Saturday afternoon. Hay finished fourth in both the triple jump and the 200 for the Pride.Overall, Springfield finished 15th as a team in the competition with 18 points. Placing first was Boston College with 102 points. Following were New Hampshire (93), UMass (60), Vermont (50), Williams (40.75), Northeastern (39), So. Conn. State (38), MIT (37), Sacred Heart and Holy Cross (35 each), URI and UMass-Lowell (32 each), AIC (24), Tufts (22), and Springfield (18). A total of 39 teams scored at least one point.
Hay placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.43 meters or 37-feet, 6-inches. She also placed fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.28 seconds. In addition, she anchored the 4x100 relay, in which SC placed second with a time of 47.38 seconds. The winner in that race was So. Conn. State just one one-hundredth of a second better at 47.37.
Others competed for the Pride. Fatima Rose finished ninth in the shot put at 12.31 meters or 40-4 3/4. Rose also placed 12th in the discus at 38.19 meters or 125-3.
Colleen Brague placed 16th in the javelin at 32.92 meters or 108-0. Megan Libon finished 22nd in the 100 at 13.18 seconds. Joy Jennifer placed 26th in the 200 at 1:04.64.
Two additional relays competed. In the 4x400, SC finished ninth at 3:56.56. And in the 4x800, SC finished 16th at 9:50.20.
Springfield will be hosting the ECAC Division III Track & Field Championships on its very own Blake Track next Thursday and Friday (May 13 and 14).
Jim Pennington enters his 29th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2012-2013. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
