Men's Track & Field Places Seventh (of 53) at the ECAC Div. III Indoor Track & Field Championships

New York, N.Y. --March 5, 2011 -- The Springfield College men's track and field team finished seventh of 53 scoring teams after two days of competition at the ECAC Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Armory in New York City.

The Pride scored 38.20 points after 21 events.

The top 20 team scores included the following. Buffalo State won the event with a score of 77 points. It was followed by Bates (49), TCNJ (45.50), Amherst (43.50), Ithaca (43), St. Lawrence (40.50), Springfield (38.50), Geneseo State (35), NYU (31), Gwynedd-Mercy (31), RIT (27), Cortland (26), Rowan (20), Moravian (19), Rochester (17), Fredonia State (16.50), RPI (16.50), Utica (15), Southern Maine (13.20), and Keene State (13).

SC entered Day 2 with 14 points under its belt. Junior Kevin Coyle (Bradford, N.H.) had won the triple jump for 10 of those points. The 4x200 meter relay had placed fifth for the other four points.

On Day 2, in the 400-meter dash, senior Nickel Hay (Norwalk, Conn.) placed sixth in 49.36 seconds for three points. In the 500-meter dash, sophomore Alex Harrington (Manchester, Me.) placed 20th (1:07.26), while sophomore Sean Nunan (Clinton, Conn.) took 23rd (1:08.27).

Sc met with success in the 1000-meter run, placing 5-6-7. Senior Troy French (Antrim, N.H.) took fifth with a time of 2:30.14, scoring four points. Behind him were sophomore Zach Pietras (Ludlow, Mass.) in sixth with a time of 2:30.17, and sophomore Ryan O'Connell (Middleboro, Mass.) in seventh with a time of 2:30.46.

In the mile, senior Stephen Creamer (Seekonk, Mass.) took 16th in 4:20.75. In the 3000, sophomore Anthony Salvucci (Burlington, Mass.) placed 11th in 8:47.64.

In terms of relays, the Pride placed ninth, one spot out of the running for team points, in the 4x800 in 8:00.67. The quartet included O'Connell, Pietras, Creamer, and French.

In the 4x400, The SC "A" team placed fifth in 3:18.93. That foursome included senior Chris Quetant (Milford, Conn.), freshman Fernando Beltran (Waterford, Vt.), senior Kevin Behlmer (Attleboro, Mass.), and Hay.
