Carter Piling Up Several More Awards, Including the Gold Helmet; Finishes No. 1 Nationally in Regular-Season Scoring
Springfield, Mass. -- November 16, 2011 -- Josh Carter of the Springfield College football team has accumulated more weekly awards following his final game last Saturday. Added today was the prestigious Gold Helmet Award, which he picked up at Harvard University.
He has also finished first nationally in Division III in regular-season scoring
The awards include the Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season -- for his school-record 299 yards rushing and his 28 points against Union. He earlier earned this award for his efforts against Frostburg State and Ithaca.
In addition, the senior quarterback from Marlborough, Mass. was named the BSN National Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Through the regular season, Josh finished in the following places in Division III statistical categories nationally:
Scoring -- 1st -- 17.40 points
Rushing Touchdowns -- 1st -- 27
Points Responsible For -- 2nd -- 23.20 points per game
Rushing -- 5th -- 149.00 yards per game
All-Purpose Yards -- 30th -- 149.0 yards per game
Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 32nd season as a head football coach in the fall of 2013. He enters his 30th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
