Stow, Mass. - October 6, 2013 - Kyle DiFranco (East Longmeadow, Mass.) earned all-conference honors for the fourth-straight year as the Springfield College golf team finished third at the New England College Conference men's golf championship today at Wedgewood Pines Country Club.
As a team, the Pride registered 635 strokes to finish third out of the seven teams competing. Elms College was crowned as the NECC Champions after recording a two-day team score of 641. Nine strokes back of the lead after day one, the Blazers fired a 324 on a soggy, wet second day of the tournament to edge out Babson College by two strokes, 643, whom posted a 335 team-score on day two.
DiFranco tied for fourth in the competition after tallying an 83 on Sunday en route to a two-day total of 157. Throughout the weekend, DiFranco led the entire field with eight birdies. Teammate David Hashagen (Morris Plains, N.J) earned his first-ever all-conference honors after his total of 165 (81-84) was good enough for second-team honors. He finished eighth overall among the 35 golfers competing.
Adam Ziewacz (Simsbury, Conn.) posted an 89 on Sunday after previously posting an 80 on Saturday to finish 15th with a 169. Mike Nowakowski (East Hampton, Conn.) finished the weekend with a 174 (82-92) to tie for 17th, while Joe Sobowicz (Farmington, Conn.) totaled a 181 (86-95) for the Pride.
