University Park, Pa. - April 20, 2013 - Five Springfield College men's gymnastics competed in the qualifying round of the NCAA Championships on Friday night inside Rec Hall, and both Ryan Ponce and Chris Jost advanced to this weekend's individual competition.
This marks the second-straight year that Springfield College has had a pair of qualifiers earn a spot in the weekend competition. Last year, both Ponce and Jimmy Pezzino competed for the Pride.
For Ponce, the junior's score of 15.200 on the still rings was good enough for seventh and second among individuals who didn't have a team qualify for the weekend's competition.
Jost will represent Springfield College in the vault this weekend after posting a 14.950. His score tied him for third overall and was the second-best score for an individual qualifier in the session.
Springfield had a pair of student-athletes in the pommel horse event, with Jon Zirna scoring a 13.350 for 26th and Pat Ryther finishing 30th with a 13.050.
Jost also competed on the floor exercise and tied for 30th after registering a 13.700, and Kevin Miner recorded a 12.900 on the parallel bars to place 33rd.
