Worcester, Mass. - February 23, 2014 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team finished fourth at the 2014 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships this weekend with 804 points. Jack Lewis (Durham, N.H.) was chosen as the the NEWMAC Men's Diver of the Year.
Lewis adds his name to a long list of Springfield College men's divers who have been named the top diver in the NEWMAC. In fact, over the past 12 years, a Springfield College men's diver has earned the accolade an incredible 11 times.
Michael Normoyle (Springfield, Mass.) highlighted the final day of competition as he defended his title in the 200 breast in thrilling fashion, registering a NCAA "B" cut time of 2:02.69 to win the race by a mere .09 seconds. Brad Mills (Enfield, Conn.) finished eighth in the event after touching in 2:09.69.
Daniel Fay (Yorktown, N.Y.) was 10th in the 200 back with a time of 1:56.87. John Vatkevich (Wrentham, Mass.) took eighth in the 1650 freestyle, while Pat Geraghty (Holyoke, Mass.) placed eighth in the 200 fly in 1:56.57.
The Pride closed out the weekend with a fifth-place finish in the 400 free relay as Jason Scotto (Southbury, Conn.), Normoyle, Fay, and Hayden Cassidy (Ada, Mich.) combined to swim a 3:09.14.
