Medford, Mass. - February 15, 2014 - Springfield College's Alex Niemiec (Chicopee, Mass.) and Ryan O'Connell (Middleboro, Mass.) each were victorious, highlighting the Pride's day at the Tufts Cupid Challenge on Saturday.
Niemiec took home first in the 60 meter dash as he crossed the finish line in 7.02 seconds, while O'Connell posted a time of 8:35.16 to claim first in the 3,000 meter run.
In the high jump, Niemiec was the runner-up with a height of 6-8, and teammate Sam Baker (Durham, Conn.)) took third with a 6-4.
In the 200 meters, Ryan Gower (Barrington, R.I.) placed 14th with a 23.59, while Jacob Buhelt (Falmouth, Maine) had a strong showing in the 400 meters with an 11th-place time of 52.12.
Jacob Simons (Naugatuck, Conn.) ran the 800 meters in 2:02.58 to take 13th, and Andrew Aronne (Wethersfield, Conn.) reached a height of 12-7.50 for 11th in the pole vault. Peter Andrews (Lincoln, R.I.) finished the weight throw in 12th place after a heave of 46-6.
Springfield will next compete in the New England Division III Championships, which will be hosted at MIT.
