Marino Tosses One-Hitter in Softball's 7-0 Win Over Framingham State

Clermont, Fla. - March 18, 2014 - Senior Ashley Marino (Harrison, N.Y) tossed a one-hitter to lead the Springfield College softball team to a 7-0 win over Framingham State on Tuesday in Clermont, Florida.

Springfield, now 5-0 on the season, is off to its best start since the 2003 team also began the year 5-0.

Marino posted seven strikeouts on the evening and did not allow a hit until the leadoff batter in the bottom of the seventh.

Jenna Webb (Harrison, N.Y.) led the Pride's offense, going 2-for-4 from the plate with two runs batted in and a stolen base. Christina Leader (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) was also 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored while Ally Rivelli (North Kingstown, R.I) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Tasha Polana (Orange, Mass.) was behind the plate for Marino's no-hitter and the first-year also produced offensively with a double.

Springfield will have Wednesday off, but will continue its play in Florida on Thursday, getting an early start with an 8:00 a.m. game against Bethany. Game two of the double header will be at noon against Benedictine.
