Women's Lacrosse Denies Connecticut College, 14-13

New London, Conn. - April 3, 2012 - Junior midfielder Meghan Flanagan had three goals and two assists to lead the Springfield College women’s lacrosse team to a 14-13 victory at Connecticut College Tuesday.

The Pride even its record at 5-5 with the triumph, while the Camels slip to 3-6 with the setback.

Kelly Gallo chipped in with three goals and an assist while Allie Davis added three scores in the Pride victory.

Michelle Dorsey collected a game-best seven draws to go with a pair of goals and an assist. Second year net-minder Anne Versprille stopped nine shots in the cage.

Connecticut College was led by sophomore Lowell Abbott and junior Bri Miller, who scored four goals each.

Libby Nichols finished with three goals while senior Katelyn Driscoll tallied a game-best six ground balls to go along with four draws, two goals and one helper.

Junior net-minder Kelsey Burke made nine saves in the setback.

The Pride took a 5-2 first half lead when Jackie Moscardelli assisted Gallo for a goal with 19:50 remaining. But the Camels battled back to tie the game at seven. Nichols sparked the Camels on a 4-0 run near the end of the half, when she rifled home a one-timer on a feed from Driscoll with 12:13 to go.

With 8:59 to go, Abbott scored her third goal of the half to put the Camels on top 8-7.

But Springfield tied things up at eight and Dorsey scored in a full sprint to the cage with 14.1 seconds left to put the visitors on top 9-8 at the break.

The Camels led for much of the second half and took a 12-11 lead when Miller buried a free position with 15:26 remaining. But Dorsey and Flanagan scored the next two goals to put Springfield on top for good. When Gallo assisted Moscardelli for a score with 6:59 to play, the Pride enjoyed a 14-12 advantage.

Driscoll got one back with 4:37 left but the Camels could not get any closer and Springfield was able to hold on for the 14-13 win.

The Camels held a 23-18 edge in ground balls. Springfield out-shot the hosts 27-to-26 in the triumph.

Springfield will play again on Thursday when it travels to square off against Williams. Game time is set for 7:00 pm
