Northampton, Mass. - November 6, 2012 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team breezed past New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Smith College, 171-117, in a dual meet on Tuesday evening.
The Pride opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, with Kelsey Poole, Nicolle Stracqualursi, Kellie Pennington, and Amanda Shaw cruising to a win in 1:55.74.
Springfield had the top three finishers in the 200 free, led by Poole's winning time of 2:00.66. In the 100 back, Stephanie Antonellis touched first in 1:05.90, while Pennington was victorious in the 100 breast with a 1:11.58.
Shaw claimed first in the 50 free, recording a 26.50, and Pennington took another individual win in the 100 free after touching in 55.01.
In the 200 back, Poole earned another win after blowing past the competition in 2:13.12, winning by nearly nine seconds. Stracqualursi touched first in the 200 breast with a 2:36.64, while Callie Phillips motored to first place in the 500 free with a time of 5:19.46. She also swam the fastest time of the evening in the 200 IM, recording a 2:17.29.
In the diving events, Springfield once again was strong as it had the top three scores on both boards. On the one-meter, Jennifer Thompson recorded a winning mark of 252.60 before posting a national-qualifying score of 270.90 on the three-meter board.
The Pride closed out the meet touching first in the 400 free relay after Poole, Shaw, Ashleigh Monroe, and Pennington combined to swim a 3:45.28.
