Annapolis, Md. - January 22, 2011 - Led by a standout performance by Ty Evans, the Springfield College men's gymnastics team finished fourth out of six teams at the Navy Open on Saturday afternoon. The Pride scored 309.050 points in the competition.
Temple won the competition with 327.300, followed by the host Midshipmen's 324.300 points. William and Mary totaled 316.100, followed by the Pride's 309.050.
Evans finished sixth in the all-around competition after totaling 78.750 points, bolstered by his winning score of 15.450 on the vault.
Chris Jost had the Pride's top score on the floor exercise with a 13.800 as he finished tied for sixth. Joe Carlson placed seventh on the pommel horse after scoring a 12.700. Teammate Rich Ruggiero's mark of 12.600 was good enough for a tie for eighth on the same event.
On the still rings, Ryan Ponce tied for third with a 13.900, while Evans posted a 12.900 as he finished tied for seventh. Roger Moulton also excelled on the vault as he tied for seventh with a 14.600.
Evans led the Pride in two other events as he recorded an eighth-place finish on the parallel bars (12.900) and a ninth-place finish on the high bar (12.500).
Springfield will return to the gym on Friday evening when it travels to square off at Army.
