Kijanka and Reggio Lead Women's Swimming and Diving In Opening Day of NCAA Championships

Minneapolis, Minn. - March 18, 2009 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team had several members compete in the opening day of the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.

After the first day of competition, Springfield is tied for 17th as a team with 13 points.

The Pride's Michelle Reggio and Meghan Kijanka had the top two performances of the day for Springfield as both were solid in the three-meter diving competition. Kijanka placed 10th out of 22 divers with a score of 408.20, closely followed by Reggio in 11th place with 407.70 points.

With their respective finishes, both Kijanka and Reggio earned Honorable Mention All-American honors.

In the 200 medley relay, the Pride's team of Meg Cooney, Moira Price, Kaitlin Reilly, and Caroline Kosciusko finished in 1:47.73. The squad, which finished 15th in prelims, had qualified for the race with a time of 1:45.70 and were seeded 11th. They advanced to the consolation finals, but were disqualified.

Price and Reilly also raced in the 50 freestyle, but neither were able to qualify for the finals on Friday evening. Price, who was seeded 13th with a qualifying time of :23.71, clocked in at 24.12 as she finished in 28th in the prelims. Last season, Price finished 13th in the country in the 50 free as she swam the consolation final in 24.21. Her time in the prelims from a year ago with 24.09.

Reilly, who swam in the fourth heat in lane one, finished in a time of 24.93 after qualifying with a time of 24.19.

Cooney also swam individually in the morning session as she competed in the 200 IM. The junior touched in a time of 2:09.99 and did not qualify for the finals. Cooney will also swim the 100 backstroke on Friday and the 200 backstroke on Saturday.
