Springfield, Mass. - November 16, 2009 - Seniors Morgan Rein and Julie Hoppmann continued to be acknowledge for their fine play this season as they were selected as 2009 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-Region honorees. Rein was named to the New England East Region First Team, while Hoppmann picked up second team honors.
This marks the second time that Rein earned all-region honors, as she was selected as a second team member last season.
Rein had a breakout senior season as she moved to forward for the Pride. The Mystic, Conn. native finished the season with a team-best 36 points as she tied for the team-lead in goals with 11 and led the offense with 14 assists. She has recorded five game-winning goals as she served as co-captain. Rein also finished the year as the league leader in assists per game with .67.
Hoppmann closed out her career with Springfield with her first all-conference nod as well. An anchor for the Pride on defense, Hoppmann started in all 21 games for SC, recording one assist in the process. Hailing from The Plains, Va., Hoppmann was a major reason why the Pride reached the NEWMAC Tournament Championship game for the sixth-straight season.
After eight years as head coach of the Pride, Melissa Sharpe, has continued the SC tradition of winning on the field hockey turf, posting an impressive 120-58 record, good for a winning percentage of .674 at the helm of her alma mater. Read more.
