



Kissimmee, Fla. -- March 17, 2011 -- The Springfield College softball team picked up a pair of victories as it downed Montclair State, 5-1, before cruising past Roger Williams, 13-1, on Thursday afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games in Florida. Springfield is now 4-4 on the season.
In the win over Montclair State, Springfield scored two runs in the second, two more in the fourth, and added an insurance run in the seventh inning. Montclair State scored one in the fifth. Up 4-1, SC escaped from a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Rightfielder Chelsea Bender went 3-for-4 for the Pride. She had one RBI, and scored two more runs. Leftfielder Christina Leader went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kasey Kelly also went 2-for-4 and knocked in a run.
Ashley Marino, a freshman who now has three victories to date, pitched 5.1 innings. She allowed five hits, one run, none earned, walked three, and struck out four. Jen Joseph hurled 1.2 innings, allowed two hits, and picked up the save.
Springfield will play its final two games of its Florida trip on Friday when it battles Rutgers-Camden and Utica.

Julie Perrelli enters her fourth season at the helm of the Springfield College softball program and as an assistant professor of physical education. In her first three seasons in the dugout for the Pride, Perelli has guided Springfield to two NEWMAC Championship title games. Read more.
