



Complete ResultsSpringfield, Mass. - April 17, 2010 - Steve Headley, the defending Division III national champion in the 100 meters, won his specialty this afternoon at the Springfield College Track & Field Invitational at Blake Track. The Pride scored 153 points as a team, which was second best, behind only Westfield State's 167.50 point total.
Other team scores included the College of St. Rose, which finished third with 123 points, followed by Wheaton with 69.50 points, then Eastern Connecticut State and New Haven (66), Keene State (56), and Siena (2).
Headley finished with a time of 10.70 seconds in the 100, giving his team 10 points for the win.
SC had others who placed highly in the meet. Freshman Ryan Ux was the only other winner, capturing the javelin with a toss of 173-10, especially pleasing SC Head Coach Ken Klatka.
In the long jump, sophomore Dylan Brock took second with a leap of 21 feet, 3 1/2 inches. In the high jump, junior Emil Occhiboi also finished second with a leap of 5 feet, 9 1/4 inches. And in the discus, junior Nick Hogan placed second with a toss of 127-4.
Another second place finish was garnered by junior Nickel Hay in the 400 with a time of 49.63 seconds. Junior Kyle Moriarty took second in the 3000 meter steeplechase. And finally in the 4x100 meter relay, SC placed second with a time of 42.27 seconds. That foursome included freshman Garrett Sharnick, Hay, senior Matt Amendola,, and Headley.
Klatka also noted a threesome that went 2-3-4 in the 800 meters. They included junior Troy French (4:03.23), freshman Zach Pietras (4:03.80), and junior Stephen Creamer (4:05.36).
Next Saturday (April 24), Springfield College will host the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Track & Field Meet for both men and women.

Ken Klatka, just inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in October, 2011, enters his 37th season as head coach of the men’s track and field program in 2012-2013. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage. Under his direction, Kevin Coyle '12 won the 2011 Division III Indoor Long Jump National Championship.
