Worcester, Mass. - April 1, 2012 - The visiting Springfield College baseball team rallied for a win in the first game and then powered past host Clark University in game two, sweeping past the Cougars in a key New England Women’s And Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Granger Field.

The Pride won game one, 5-2 in eight innings and then took game two, 12-5 to improve to 10-7 overall and 4-2 in league play, while the Cougars slip to 6-14 and 2-4 in conference action.

In the opener, Clark held a 2-1 lead after the third inning following Mike Lamothe coming up with an RBI single that scored Daniel Lima.

Cougar starter Brian Sullivan was cruising along - retiring nine batters in a row at one point – before he ran into trouble in the top of the seventh. Mike McGowan led off the frame with a double to left and eventually came around to score on a single to left by Mike Milano.

Springfield then took a 5-2 lead in the top of the eighth when Sean Smith doubled in two runs and pinch hitter Jared Hopkins pushed another across with a base hit to left.

Reliever Craig Zysk, who tossed 3.1 innings of hitless relief picked up the win for the Pride. Sullivan was the tough luck loser for the Cougars, tossing 7.2 innings, scattering nine hits and striking out eight.

Game two looked as if it was going in Clark’s favor when they went up 4-2 in the third on RBI singles by Matthew Bohl and Sullivan, an RBI from Matt Asdornvuttikrai and a bases loaded walk by Jeremy Gerber.

Springfield regained the lead in the fourth on an RBI single from Steve Starr and a two-run base hit by Mike Corletta.

Clark knotted the game in the fifth on a Sullivan RBI double, but the Pride exploded for four runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run single by Kyle DiFranco.

Springfield scored three more in the sixth as DiFranco pushed across another run with a single and Corletta provided a two-run double.

Corletta and DiFranco were keys to the Pride attack, going 6-for-9 with nine RBI, while Jon Medici tossed 2.2 innings of stellar relief to earn the win.
