Spirit's Story - About Springfield College's Mascot

Spirit Here at Springfield College, our Spirit is furry and has four paws. The Pride is represented by a majestic lion named Spirit, who first debuted in the Fall of 2003.

Spirit is a depiction of the student body as it was created not only for, but by the students. A contest was held to see who could develop the best sketch for the new lion mascot. After deliberating over the many submissions the winning sketch was revealed. Once Spirit was created in the fall of 2003, the students were then asked to create a name for the lion. Faculty debated and determined Spirit was fitting to represent the Springfield College Pride. The name was revealed at a women’s soccer game at home against Amherst.

Now Spirit can be found roaming campus taking part in activities including supporting Springfield College’s 26 varsity teams at games and making guest appearances in community events such as National Girls & Women in Sports Day, Special Olympics and the “Stay in School” campaign launched by Springfield Public Schools.
