Sophomore Catherine Teague (Manchester, N.H.) won her match at No. 1 singles, and teamed with sophomore Sarah Geocaris (Newport Beach, Calif.) to win at No. 1 doubles to lead the Lyons to the team victory. Wheaton remains unbeaten at 6-0 overall, 2-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference play, while Springfield is now 1-2 overall, and 0-2 in the league.
The match began with doubles play, with Wheaton dominating the action. Teague and Geocaris won their match, 8-2.
In singles, Teague defeated Springfield sophomore Amy Shaw (Walpole, Mass.) at No. 1, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2, Geocaris lost the first set to Weinstein, a sophomore from Allentown, Pa.,, 6-4, but came back to win the second set, 6-2. She then won the third set super tiebreaker, 10-4.
Other singles winners for Wheaton included freshman Allesandra DiOrio (Cumberland, R.I.) at No. 3, sophomore Ellen Van Faasen (Manchester, Mass.) at No. 4, junior Katherine Knies (Purdys, N.Y.) at No. 5, and freshman Rosalyn Chesky (South Hadley, Mass.) at No. 6.
