Gorham, Maine - January 28, 2012 - The Springfield College women's track and field team put forth a dominating performance as it placed first out of 10 teams competing at the University of Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon.
As a team, Springfield scored 165.5 points to claim the Invitational title. Host Southern Maine finished second with 140.5 points, while Bates (118), Smith (62), and Mount Holyoke (37.5) rounded out the top five.
In the 55 meter dash, Laurie Jenkins placed first with a 7.55, followed closely by teammate Crystal Davis' second-place time of 7.67. The Pride's 4x200 relay team of Davis, Elizabeth Saia, Gabriella Gaudreault, and Jenkins was victorious in 1:47.27.
Individually, Gaudreault won the 400 in 1:00.82, crossing the finish line just before Kathryn Schumann who posted a time of 1:01.21.
Springfield also had the top-two finishers in the 800, with Jenn Kapinos taking first in 2:26.06 and Nicole DeChristoforo placing second in 2:27.37.
The 4x400 relay team was victorious as well with Schumann, Davis, Kapinos, and Gaudreault combining for a winning time of 4:07.61.
Rhian Duggan placed second in the pole vault (10-00.00), followed by Schumann (9-06.25 ) in third. Kelly Curtis took second in the shot put with a distance of 37-09.50, while also placing third in the 55 meter hurdles in 8.80
In the triple jump, Amanda Martin was the runner-up with a mark of 35-02.00. She also was fourth in the long jump after recording a distance of 16-05.75.
