New York, N.Y. - March 3, 2012 - The Springfield College men's volleyball team dropped the first two sets before rallying to win the next three to edge Baruch College on Saturday evening. The Pride took the match by the scores of 21-25, 24-26, 25-18, 25-21, 15-8.
Springfield which was ranked No. 2 in the country once again this week in the AVCA National Coaches Poll, improved to 15-5. The 14th-ranked Bearcats dropped to 9-7.
Mike Pelletier finished with a match-high 19 kills, hitting .472, and was especially effective in serve receive. The junior outside had just two errors in 53 tries as he added five digs and a pair of blocks. Jimmy O'Leary hammered 12 kills on 18 errorless swings, hitting .667 while adding three blocks. Angel Perez tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs, Nick Ferry added a match-best 12 digs, and Greg Falcone notched six kills and five blocks. Keaton Pieper was credited with 54 assists in leading Springfield's offense to a .417 hitting percentage.
Trailing two sets to none, the Pride's offense proved to be unstoppable over the next three games, racking up 41 kills on 64 swings with just five errors (.562).
Danny Olson had a big evening for the Bearcats with 47 assists and 10 digs. Jack McKee posted 16 kills by hitting a solid .306 and Nick Smith totaled 14 kills and eight digs. Vincent Cruz hit .375 with 11 kills and five blocks.
The Pride will play again on Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm when it hosts rival NYU in a clash of nationally ranked teams.
