Springfield, Mass. - January 26, 2013 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team cruised to a 173-123 victory over Babson College in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon in Linkletter Natatorium.
Springfield took the first event in the 200 yard medley relay team of Travis Morse, Michael Normoyle, Pat Geraghty, and Jason Scotto finished first with a time of 1:39.33. Springfield also had a nice showing in the 100 yard backstroke as Morse and Daniel Fay finished first and second, respectively, with times of 54.58 and 57.80.
Normoyle finished first in the 100 yard breast stroke with a time of 59.61. Springfield continued to roll as Scotto and Hayden Cassidy finished 1-2 with times of 22.41 and 23.20 in the 50 yard freestyle. Nolan Manley added more first-place points for the hosts as he took first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 49.24.
Morse continued to pick up wins, this time in the 200 yard backstroke, as he took first with a time of 1:59.64. More of the same continued for the Pride, as Normoyle took top honors in the 200 yard breast stroke with a time of 2:12.75. The 200 yard IM saw Springfield take both first and second place as Normoyle and John Vatkevich finished with times of 2:00.74 and 2:03.60, respectively.
On the diving boards, Kenny Pancoast and Jack Lewis took the top two spots, each earning national qualifying standards. On the one-meter, Pancoast took first with a 327.00, followed by Lewis' mark of 298.49. Earlier in the meet, Pancoast won the three-meter with with a 287.55, with Lewis placing a close second after scoring a 285.23.
Springfield will look to carry its momentum into their next meet, which is the Middlebury Invitational on February 1-2.
