Boston, Mass. - September 16, 2013
- After leading the Springfield College women's volleyball team to its second MIT Invitational Championship in the last three years, Tessa Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.)
was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Volleyball Player of the Week.
Smolinski powered the Pride to wins over Tufts, Connecticut College, Bowdoin, and Regis over the weekend and totaled 51 kills, averaging 3.64 per set, while hitting .310. She also added 32 digs and six blocks en route to be named the Most Outstanding Player of the Invitational.
The senior outside hitter was dominant against Tufts, notching 23 kills at a .373 clip to go along with 12 digs before posting 14 kills and 15 digs in a five-set win over Bowdoin, which proved to be a rematch of last year's NCAA Regional Championship semifinal.
