Centenary Wins the Doug Parker Wrestling Invitational; Springfield Places Third

Springfield, Mass. -- November 17, 2012 -- Centenary College of New Jersey placed first of 16 teams to capture the Doug Parker Invitational Wrestling Championship today at the Springfield College Field House. Roger Williams finished second and host Springfield placed third.

Chris Burdge, a 157-pounder from Johns Hopkins, was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler. Leo Wortman of Stevens Institute of Technology had the most pins with four.

The final order of finish included Centenary with 166 points, followed by Roger Williams with 137.5, Springfield with 128.5, Wesleyan with 128, Johns Hopkins with 85.5, Stevens 83, RIC 71.5, Western New England 57, Plymouth State 49, Williams 48.5, AIC 42.5, Trinity 39, MIT 33.5, Coast Guard 22.5, Springfield Tech 18.5, and Bridgewater State 7.

From a Springfield College perspective, the Pride had top-six finishers in eight of the 10 weight classifications. Senior Joe Grippi (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) won his class at 141 pounds. Three others placed second, including senior Derrick Longo (Ardsley, N.Y.) at 165; senior Michael Fish (Middletown, N.J.) at 174; and grad student John Gabordi (Ledyard, Conn.) at 285.
