Knoxville, Tenn. - March 23, 2011 - Freshman Jennifer Thompson earned All-America honors on the three-meter board to lead the Springfield College women's swimming and diving team at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday evening.
After the first day of competition, Springfield is in seventh place after scoring 25 points as a team.
In her first trip to the national meet, Thompson totaled 423.30 points to earn All-America honors as she placed fourth overall out of 22 divers. In fact, Thompson was the top finishing freshman in the entire diving competition. Teammate Courtney Keefe took home Honorable Mention All-America honors as her score of 386.95 was good enough for 13th. Paige Rhodes scored a 348.45 in the prelims but was unable to qualify for the finals in the evening session.
In the 50 free, freshman Kellie Pennington placed 11th with a time of 23.61, which earned her Honorable Mention All-America honors. Pennington went into the event seeded second with a qualifying time of 23.18, but clocked in at 23.67 in the prelims, which qualified her for the consolation finals.
The Pride's 200 medley relay team also swam but was unable to qualify for the finals. The team of Kaitlin Reilly, Caroline Kosciusko, Aimee Doe, and Jaclyn Van Waalwijk clocked in at 1:50.32.
