Men's Lacrosse Falls at Stevens, 11-5, In Clash of Nationally-Ranked Teams

Hoboken, N.J. - March 4, 2012 - Despite holding a 4-3 lead midway through the second quarter, the Springfield College men's lacrosse team fell to host Stevens, 11-5, on Sunday afternoon in a clash of nationally-ranked teams on Sunday.

Springfield which was ranked 18th this week in the USILA National Poll, lost for the first time this season to drop to 2-1. The Ducks, the nation's eighth-ranked team, improved to 3-0.

The Ducks held a slight 6-4 lead at the half and then locked up Springfield's offense, holding the Pride off the scoreboard until 3:12 left in the fourth quarter.

Ryan Murphy was the lone member of the Pride to have multiple points as he scored a paired of goals in the first half. Branden Fernandez went 9-for-15 on face-offs and picked up eight ground balls, while Connor Nash made nine saves in goal.

For the Ducks, Harry Dorne had a game-high four goals, while Kevin Rose added two goals and two helpers. Alex Hofrichter chipped in with two goals and an assist. Eric Yando earned the save between the pipes with nine saves.

Murphy opened up the scoring just 40 seconds into the contest to give the visiting Pride a 1-0 lead. The hosts answered back with three-straight goals, including two by Hofrichter, to take a 3-1 lead after 15 minutes of play.

Springfield responded with three unanswered goals of their own to take their final lead at 4-3. Murphy got the scoring started at 13:49 on an unassisted marker before Parker Geane finished a Ryon Lynch feed at the 11:45 mark. Just six seconds later, Fernandez won the face-off and found Mike Donoghue for a goal as Springfield snagged a 4-3 lead.

The Pride wouldn't score for over 38 minutes as the Ducks rattled off seven-straight goals, including three-straight from Dorne over a four-minute span in the second quarter.

Mike Delia finally broke Springfield's scoring drought with an unassisted goal with 3:12 left in regulation.

The Pride will not play again until March 14th when it hosts fourth-ranked Middlebury at 5:00 pm.
