Men's Gymnastics Defeats Army with Its High Team Score This Season, 335.200 - 331.850

Josh Fox Springfield, Mass. -- February 28, 2010 -- Behind the stellar performances of sophomore Ty Evans, the Springfield College men's gymnastics team defeated Army, 335.200 to 331.850 this afternoon at SC's Blake Arena. For the Pride, it marked its highest score of the year. It was also the fourth time in four tries that SC had beaten Army this year.

Evans, who hails from San Jose, Calif., finished in the top six in all six events. That included his top individual score (85.850) in the All-Around. He had two firsts, two seconds, a fourth, and a sixth. The firsts came in the high bar (14.450) and the parallel bars (14.500). His seconds came in the vault (15.450) and the floor exercise (14.500). The fourth came in still rings (13.500), and the sixth was produced in the pommel horse (13.450).

Junior Josh Fox (Ellicott City, Md.) also had a great meet. He placed second in the All-Around behind Evans with a score of 82.800. Fox captured the floor exercise (14.550). He also had two seconds and a fourth. The seconds came in the high bar (13.850) and the parallel bars (14.000). The fourth came in the still rings (13.500).

Springfield's Joe Gianino, a sophomore from Burlington, Mass., and Army's Justin Sappington, a senior from Hillsboro, Ore., tied for first in the pommel horse with scores of 14.000. Army also had a first in the vault (15.900) by freshman Kip Webber of Boxborough, Mass .
