Women's Soccer Cruises Past Smith, 5-0

Northampton, Mass - October 8, 2013 - The Springfield College women's soccer team used five different goal scorers en route to a 5-0 win over host Smith College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday afternoon.

Springfield improves to 7-3-1 overall and remains unbeaten in NEWMAC play at 3-0-1. Smith dips to 4-6-1, with a 2-2 NEWMAC ledger.

Springfield goalie Sarah Myers (Bridgewater, Mass.) made a big save early on, leaping to touch GiGi Ross' shot over the crossbar in the 7th minute. The Pride made the breakthrough five minutes later when Kim Rasmussen (East Berlin, Conn.) slipped home her third goal of the season following a Julia Cormier (New Bedford, Mass.) corner kick.

Springfield doubled its lead on Brooke Hattinger's (Weymouth, Mass.) 28th minute strike, and added a third five minutes before halftime when Karly Barrett (Sparta, N.J.) lashed home a shot from 35 yards out past Smith goalie Alanna Lynch.

The Pride added second half goals from Elizabeth Monsen (Wayne, N.J.) in the 54th minute and Heather Slavin (Enfield, Conn.) in the 86th to seal away the win.

The Pride outshot Smith, 23-3 and had the 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. Myers played the first half and made two stops for Springfield. Holly Ouellette (Shrewsbury, Mass.) played the second period and was not called upon to make a save. Lynch made a career high 16 saves in net for Smith.

Springfield will head to Wheaton College for a re-match of last season's NEWMAC Championship game on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.. Smith will continue NEWMAC play with a trip to Emerson College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
