Voelker, Dayton Lead SC Men in Track & Field

Springfield, Mass. -- February 2, 2013 -- The Springfield College men placed second as a team at its own track & field meet at the Springfield College Field House this afternoon. Erich Voelker and John Dayton took firsts individually for the hosts.

CCNY took top honors as a team with 149 points. Springfield was second with 132 points, followed by USMMA (129), Amherst (117), Trinity (73), Eastern Connecticut (59), Manhattanville (25), and Mount St. Mary (15).

Voelker, a junior, took first in the 5000-meters with a time of 16:07.56. Dayton, also a junior, took a first in the weight throw for the second week in a row. His winning toss went 17.11 meters.

Five individuals placed second for the hosts. They included Sean Nunan in the 500 meters in 1:08.16, Sam Baker in the high jump in 1.88 meters, Andrew Aronne in the pole vault in 3.55 meters, Brandon Hammerstrom in the shot put in 13.09 meters, and Peter Andrews in the weight throw in 14.82 meters.

Also copping a second was the distance medley relay team in 10:57.48. That quartet included Steven Gilfeather, Rocco DiStefano, Eric Archambeault, and Anthony Salvucci.

Three more individuals took thirds for the Pride. They were Anthony Salvucci in the 3000-meters in 8:45.20, Nicholas Salvucci in the high jump in 1.83 meters, and Andrews in the shot put in 12.14 meters.

The 4x400 meter relay team also placed third in 3:35.04. That squad included Bryan Gower, Walker Smith, Alex Harrington, and Nunan.

Net Saturday, SC will travel to BU in Boston for the BU Invitational.
