Houston, Texas - March 23, 2013 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the 2013 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in 14th place after several standout performances on the final day.
The Pride totaled 80 points over the four-day event to finish in 14th-place nationally, marking the third-straight year that the Pride has finished in the top 15 nationally.
For the second time this week, Kellie Pennington was the national runner-up in an event, this time placing second in 100 freestyle to take home All-America recognition. In the championship race, Pennington clocked in at 50.35 and nearly won the national championship as she closed hard in the final lap.The junior qualified for the evening finals session after recording the fifth-fastest time in the prelims, a 50.59. She originally entered the race seeded second with a qualifying time of 50.76.
Springfield had a relay team earn Honorable Mention All-America honors for the third time this week , as the 400 free relay team of Callie Phillips, Amanda Shaw, Kelsey Poole, and Pennington swam in the consolation finals and touched in school-record time of 3:28.36 to finish 12th nationally. In the prelims, the squad posted the 14th-fastest time, clocking in at 3:29.08.
