



Springfield, Mass. -- January 31, 2010 -- The Springfield College men's gymnastics team, behind a total team effort, outscored their counterparts from Army and Navy this afternoon in a tri-meet at SC's Blake Arena. The Pride scored 333.000 points, followed by Army at 330.950, and Navy at 326.100. It was the third time in three weeks that Springfield had beaten the Naval Academy. Four separate individuals from Springfield won events. They were sophomore Ty Evans (San Jose, Calif.) in the vault (15.600), freshman Jimmy Pezzino (Buffalo, N.Y.) in the floor exercise (14.950), senior co-captain Matt Tocchio (Braintree, Mass.) in the pommel horse (13.300), and senior co-captain Kyle Bartgis (Nottingham, Md.), who tied for first in the parallel bars (14.100).
Other winners included sophomore Andrew Faulk (San Antonio, Tx.) of Navy in the still rings (14.400), junior Dylan Parrott (Rockwell, N.C.) of Navy in the high bar (15.250), and, also tying in the parallel bars, were freshman Michael Ikaika-Jakub (Eatontown, N.J.) and junior Tim Tieng (Thorofare, N.J.), both of Army, with scores of 14.100.
In the All-Around, Faulk of Navy finished first (84.950), while the Springfield duo of Evans (83.150) and junior Josh Fox (Ellicott City, Md.) (83.000) placed second and third.
Springfield's total of 59.900 on vault was the best team score in any single event on the afternoon.
