Cambridge, Mass. - September 22, 2012 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team wrapped up a very successful weekend with wins over Tufts and Bates to finish second at the MIT Invitational. Coupled with wins over Bowdion and Endicott on Friday evening, Springfield is now 12-3 and winners of five-straight matches. In the first match of the day against Tufts, Springfield dropped the opening set, 18-25, before grinding out the next three sets, 25-22, 25-22, 25-23 to complete the four-set win.
Versus Bates, plenty of members of the team saw action as the Pride cruised 25-7, 25-15, 25-18.
For her efforts during the weekend, Mary Consol was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Host MIT claimed the Invitational's crown, as they also finished the weekend with a 4-0 record, as did Wellesley College. However, sets won-lost broke the three-way tie as MIT had a ledger of 12-1, followed by the Pride’s 12-2 outing and the Blue’s record of 12-3.
Springfield will return to conference play on Tuesday when it hosts Clark at 7:00 pm.

Moira Long will enter her second season as head women's volleyball coach in the fall of 2012. Long wasted little time putting her stamp on the program, taking the Pride to the NCAA Championship Elite Eight in 2011.
