New Britain, Conn. - November 1, 2008 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team was edged by Southern Connecticut, 155.5-142.5, in a meet hosted at Central Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon.
Leading the way for the Pride in the meet was freshman Brian Way, who continued to get his collegiate career off to a great start. Way picked up a win in the 200 fly (1:58.99), tied for first in the 400 I.M (4:19.16), and placed second in the 100 fly (53.64).
Also having a standout day for Springfield was Brian Sobel, who swept the diving competition. Sobel won the three-meter board with a score of 267.10, and cruised to victory on the one-meter with a 294.10, nearly 70 points better than the second-place finisher.
Andrew Blakesley and Ryan Mackstutis also had solid meets for the Pride. Blakesley touched first in the 500 free in 4:58.57, and finished second in the 200 free (1:46.82) and the 100 free (48.94). Mackstutis placed second in the 100 breast (1:02.89) and the 200 breast (2:17.22), while Greg Pearsall also picked up a win in the 50 free with a time of 21.99.
Springfield returns to action on Nov. 15 when it hosts the University of Rhode Island at 1:00 pm.
