Springfield, which earned the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament by defeating Babson, 6-2, in the final round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference tourney yesterday, will play in the Babson Park Regional as the #4 seed.
Entering with a 26-18 overall record, the Pride will open against #5-seeded St. Joseph's of Standish, Maine. The Monks own a 33-11 mark, having finished second in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament to Husson.
Springfield will be one of eight teams competing in the strong Babson Park Regional.The remaining six teams will include #1-seeded Tufts (38-3), #2-seeded Rowan (37-7), #3-seeded Babson (32-12), #6-seeded Bridgewater State (Mass.) (26-15), #7-seeded Husson (31-10-1), and #8-seeded Lesley (24-17).
Tufts, ranked #7 nationally in the NFCA poll, recently won the New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament. Rowan, ranked #8 nationally in the same poll, was the top seed in the New Jersey Athletic Conference tournament, although it did not win that tourney.
Springfield also won the NEWMAC regular season with a 13-3 conference mark (ahead of Babson's 12-4 record).
As mentioned, St,. Joseph's lost to Husson in the championship round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament concluded yesterday. Scores were 3-0 and 3-1, as Husson came back from one loss down.
Bridgewater State won the Massachusetts State Athletic Conference tournament.
Husson won the GNAC.
And Lesley won the New England Collegiate Conference tournament.
