Men's Cross Country Places 2nd of Nine at the Smith Invitational in 2010 Opener

Ryan Allison Springfield, Mass. -- September 11, 2010 -- The Springfield College men's cross country team finished second as a team with 47 points at today's Smith Invitational in Northampton in their 2010 season opener. Junior Ryan Allison was SC's top placer in sixth among individuals.

Allison is from Voorheesville, N.Y. and finished with a time of 17:16.39. Right behind Allison was sophomore Matt Scully (Watertown, Mass.) with a time of 17:17.27 in seventh place.

Among teams, Coast Guard was the overall winner with a score of 20 points. Next came Springfield's 47 in second. In third was Western New England with 106 points, followed by Lesley (116), Clark (131), Delaware Valley (149), Salve Regina (183), Southern Vermont (240), and Elms (258).

Placing 1-2 among individuals was the Coast Guard duo of Nate Crum (16:41.12) and Trevor Siperek (16:46.22).

Others who finished well for Springfield were junior Russell Johnson (Hooksett, N.H.), 9th at 17:26.85; senior Kyle Moriarty (North Kingston, R.I.), 11th at 17:31.97; and freshman Conor Nixon (Wakefield, Mass.), who placed 14th at 17:34.47.

Next Saturday, SC will participate at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational at 12 noon.
