



Cambridge, Mass. - September 19, 2009 - Both Amy Shaw and Kyla Walgren competed in the Division III Wilson/ITA Women's New England Region Championships hosted at MIT over the weekend.Shaw lost both of her singles matches as she fell to Williams' Lucy Marchese, 6-2 6-0, before losing to Sarah Miller from Wesleyan 6-2 6-0 in the consolation round. Walgren also dropped a pair of singles matches as she lost to Smith College's Isabela Pal 6-1, 6-2 and then Brittney Faber from Middlebury, 6-0, 6-1.
Walgren and Shaw also teamed up for the doubles competition but had similar results. The duo fell to Nahrhree Han and My-Linh Nguyen from Mt. Holyoke, 8-6, in their first match. They then lost to Marie Watanabe and Nathalie Herman from Wellesley, 8-1, in the consolation round.

Toby Coffin G’01, enters his third year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
