Golf Opens Up Play at New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship

Michael Nowakowski Brewster, Mass. – October 28, 2013 - Joe Sobowicz (Farmington, Conn.) and Kyle DiFranco (East Longmeadow, Mass.) led the Springfield College golf team on the first day of the 79th annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship at The Captains Golf Club.

Sobowicz and DiFranco each shot an 81 in the opening round, tying them for 86th overall out of 189 golfers.

Mike Nowakowski (East Hampton, Conn.) shot an 85, Michael McAllister (Ranco Cucamonga, Calif.) a 95 and Frankie Anetzberger (Selkirk, N.Y.) rounded out the Pride scoring with a 103. As a team, Springfield’s 342 places the team 33rd overall.

Central Connecticut State University leads the field with a first-day total of 288, even for par. Central Connecticut’s Monte Mullen is in first place, two-under par with a 70.

The NEIGA Championship wraps up on Monday afternoon.

Eadie is the head golf professional at the Fenway Golf Range in nearby East Longmeadow, and is in the process of becoming a PGA Professional.
