



Springfield, Mass. -- February 12, 2012 -- The powerful Penn State men's gymnastics team, ranked #3 in the nation, swept into Blake Arena and easily handled Springfield College this afternoon, winning by a score of 350.500 to 323.500. The Nittany Lions won all six events, although SC's Ian Stratton captured the all-around. The Pride was without the services of senior co-captain and All-American Ty Evans (San Jose, Calif.), the reigning NCAA National Collegiate Division Gymnast of the Week, who was nursing an injury. Last week, Evans finished ninth in the vault at the Winter Cup in Las Vegas as he competed with the nation's elite.
Stratton, a freshman from Elizabeth City, N.C., was the only gymnast to compete in all six events today. He finished with a score of 79.100.
Penn State is on a role, and remains one of the favorites to win the NCAA title in this sport Two weeks ago, it won the West Point Open with a score of 352.000.
Junior Felix Aronovich (Kiryat Bialik, Israel) had a great meet for the Nittany Lions. He finished first in the parallel bars (15.000) and in the high bar (14.900). He also took second in the pommel horse (14.900), third in the still rings (15.000), and sixth in the floor exercise (14.200).
Other winners for Penn State included junior Parker Raque (Louisville, Ky.) in the floor (15.400), sophomore Preston Gall (Columbus Ohio) in the pommel horse (15.100), junior Scott Rosenthal (Clearfield, Pa.) in the still rings (16.300, the day's high score), and freshman Tristan Duverglas (West Orange, N.J.) in the vault (15.000).
Sophomore Ryan Ponce (Tolland, Conn.) had SC's top score and finish in the still rings (15.200, second).
