Complete ResultsLewiston, Maine - January 30, 2010 - The Springfield College men's track and field team competed Saturday afternoon at the Bowdoin Invitational and captured a second place finish. MIT won the event, tallying 264 points, while the Pride finished in second with 108.
The day began as senior Steve Headley continued his dominance in the 55 meter dash. Headley finished in 6.43 to earn the first place title. Classmate Matt Amendola also ran well in the 55 finishing third in a time of 6.68.
Junior Nickel Hay finished second in the 400, crossing the line in 50.97, just before classmate Chris Quetant finished in 51.15 for third place. Troy French was victorious in the 1,000 recording a time of 2:32.06 to take the title. In the mile run, junior Stephen Creamer finished third in 4:23.13.
Both the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams narrowly missed first place finishes. The 4x400 quartet of Tom Brognano, Kevin Behlmer, Hay, and Quetant finished second in 3:24.73, just .12 behind the MIT relay team. James Dang, Zach Pietras, French, and Creamer finished in 8:05.53 in the 4x800, good enough for second place and just .16 behind the first place team from MIT.
Sophomore Kevin Coyle had a tremendous day in the jumping pit. Coyle jumped 23-7 1/4 to finish first in the long jump, while recording a jump of 46-1 1/2 for second place in the triple jump. Junior Emil Occhiboi finished third in the high jump with a mark of 6-1 1/2.
The Pride return to action next Saturday as it hosts the Springfield Invitational for the final home event of the indoor season, which is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.
Ken Klatka, just inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in October, 2011, enters his 37th season as head coach of the men’s track and field program in 2012-2013. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage. Under his direction, Kevin Coyle '12 won the 2011 Division III Indoor Long Jump National Championship.
