Westfield, Mass. - March 27, 2010 - In its first outdoor meet of the season, the Springfield College women's track and field team won the 2010 Jerry Gravel Classic on Saturday afternoon at Westfield State College.
The Pride had a great showing in its first meet of the season as it scored 137 points to top the 18-team field. American International finished second with 99 points, followed by Amherst and Wesleyan who tied for third with 76, and the host Westfield State rounding out the top five with 45 points.
Fatima Rose won the shot put with a heave of 12.39 m (40-07.75), took second in the hammer 43.97m (144-03), and fifth in the discus 32.36m (106-02). Rhian Duggan pole vaulted a height of 2.82m (9-03.00) to finish in second.
In her first collegiate outdoor meet, Colleen Brague won the javelin with an NCAA Championships provisional qualifying distance of 39.13m (128-04). Coming off her indoor national championship in the triple jump, Nikki Hay won the long jump (5.24m, 17-02.25) and the triple jump ( 11.24m, 36-10.50).
In the 100, Crystal Davis won with a time of 13.05, followed by teammate Megan Libon who took second in 13.30. Joy Jennifer took second in the 400, crossing the finish line in 1:00.87, while SC also took first in the 4x100 relay (52.25) and 4x400 relay (4:11.65). Lacey Cartier ran a second-place time of 2:21.69 in the 800 and Catherine Croce placed second in the 400 hurdles in 1:10.95.
