



Cambridge, Mass. – November 1, 2008 – For the fifth consecutive year, Springfield College men’s cross country claimed third place at the 2008 New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference Championships (NEWMAC).
Senior
Host MIT cruised to the NEWMAC title scoring 28 points with six runners finishing in the top ten including senior Jake Ruzevick (25:25) who defended his 2007 crown. Behind the Engineers came Coast Guard with 41 points, followed by Springfield with 93, then WPI (101), Wheaton (154), Babson (161), and Clark (195).
Griffin, who crossed the finish line in 25:41, picked up All NEWMAC First Team honors.
Freshman David Birdsall (Madison, Conn.) placed 17th with a time of 26:29, sophomore Kyle Moriarty (North Kingston, R.I.) finished in 27:01, followed by junior Michael DeCrescenzo (New Milford, Conn.) with a time of 27:08. Senior TJ Potenza (Cranston, R.I.) crossed the line in 27:34, while sophomore Matt Geanacopoulos (Ludlow, Mass.) finished in 27:45, and also finishing in the top 50 for the Pride was junior John DeVaney (Albany, N.Y.) in a time of 27:55.
Springfield next competes in the ECAC Division III Championships on November 8 at Colt State Park in Bristol, Rhode Island.

Bryan Brown will enter his second season as the head men's cross country coach in the fall of 2012. Brown, who was a former All-American at Springfield College in track, led Springfield to a second-place finish at the NEWMAC Championships a year ago .
