The Pride received another strong performance from its starting pitcher, as freshman James Christensen earned the win after five innings of work. The local product for East Longmeadow, Mass. gave up just two runs and Springfield used solid relief pitching down the stretch to earn the win.
Through five games this season, Springfield has outscored its opponents, 47-14, and has had all five of its starting pitchers earn victories. As a team, the Pride are off to its best start in 40 years, matching the same 5-0 start that the 1971 team accomplished. That team kicked off the year with nine-consecutive victories.
Springfield pounded out 12 hits in the contest and showed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks. Brian Harris went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, while Mike McGowan totaled three hits and recorded three RBI. Louie Nucci also cracked a three-run double for the Pride.
