Springfield Women Finish 14th at the ECAC Track & Field Championships at RPI

Colleen Brague Troy, N.Y. -- May 18, 2012 -- The Springfield College women's team was led by a trio of javelin throwers at the ECAC Division III Track & Field Championships the past two days at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The leading point scorer for SC was junior Colleen Brague with her second-place finish in the event. As a team, the Pride placed 14th.

Brague, who hails from Smithfield, R.I., scored an individual team-high of eight points by throwing the javelin 41.16 meters. The other two from SC who placed in this event were senior Kelly Curtis (Princeton, N.J.) in fourth with her best throw of 40.46 meters, and freshman Haley Regan (Sheldon Springs, Vt.) in seventh with a toss of 40.02 meters.

As a team, Springfield placed 14th of 55 scoring teams with 26 points. Ithaca won the championship with 68 points.

The only other individual from SC who scored points was sophomore sprinter Gabriella Gaudreault (Leominster, Mass.) who finished seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.43.

Brague scored eight points, Curtis five, Regan and Gaudreault each two.

Others which contributed to the SC point total were the 4x800 meter relay team which finished third in 9:33.81, and the 4x100 relay team which finished sixth in 48.52 seconds. The 4x800 contributed six points, the 4x100 team contributed three points.

Others who competed and did well included the 4x400 meter relay team which finished 10th in 3:58.72, Curtis who placed 11th in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.18 seconds, Curtis who placed 12th in the high jump in 1.54 meters, and Curtis again in 12th in the long jump in 5.04 meters.

In addition, freshman Amanda Martin (Bristol, Conn.) placed 13th in the triple jump with a leap of 11.05 meters, junior Laurie Jenkins (Columbia, Conn.) took 15th in the 100 meters in 12.76 seconds, and junior Rhiann Duggan (Northboro, Mass.) who took 17th in the pole vault in 3.10 meters.

Three other distance runners had good times. Sophomore Erica Fisher (Chicopee, Mass.) placed 22nd in the 10,000 meters in 40:08.17, while freshman Nora Letendre (Northampton, Mass.) placed 25th in the same event in 40:31.81. Senior Michelle Mirti (Pompton Plains, N.J.) wrapped up her fine cross country/track & field career at SC by placing 26th in the 5000 in 18:36.67.

Next week, SC will be represented by Curtis and Brague at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships at Claremont, California.
