



Box ScoreSpringfield Mass. -- October 1, 2011 -- Senior forward Katie Mantie (Wallingford, Conn.) scored the winning goal in the first half in leading the Springfield College women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Wellesley College this afternoon at the Irv Schmid Sports Complex. With the win, SC raised its record to 5-3-1 overall, 2-0-1 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference.
The Wellesley Blue fell to 2-7-2 overall, 1-2-0 in the NEWMAC.
Katie's goal was unassisted and was scored unassisted from the right side at 27:57 into the game.
The second goal came well into the second half. Junior midfielder Courtney LeTourneau (Paxton, Mass.) also scored unassisted at 63:21. She took advantage of a turnover, then fired the ball in from 25 yards out.
The final goal was scored at 87:08 by sophomore forward Kim Rasmussen (East Berlin, Conn.). The assist went to junior defender Britt Edwards (West Springfield, Mass.).
Springfield junior goalkeeper Erin Greenstein (Framingham, Mass.) registered the shutout, but was not credited with a save. For Wellesley, freshman goalkeeper Claire Cerda (Coral Gables, Fla.) registered five saves. They each played 90 minutes.
The Pride outshot the Blue, 19-4.
Up next, Springfield will play at Smith Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 4 pm.
John Gibson, a native of London, England, enters his 13th season as head women's soccer at Springfield College in the fall of 2012. Gibson has led the Pride to the NCAA Tournament in five of the last seven years and has established the Pride as one of the top programs in the country. His clubs have registered an impressive a 152-70-19 record.
