



West Point, N.Y. - February 2, 2013 - Ryan Ponce provided the highlight of the evening for the Springfield College men's gymnastics team as he claimed the individual title in the still rings on Saturday evening in the West Point Open.After competing as a team on Friday night, several individuals qualified to compete on Saturday night. Ponce edged out the competition as he registered a 14.100 to win his speciality, marking the first time that a Springfield College gymnast won an individual title in the 22-year history of the event.
Springfield's next highest finish came on the high bar as Garrett DeSantis finished in third after posting a 12.950. The Pride also had a great showing on the pommel horse, with Jon Zirna recording a 13.400 to take fifth.
On the vault, Chris Jost scored a 13.650 to take sixth, while teammate Sam Docherty also took sixth on the parallel bars after totaling a 13.200.
Jimmy Pezzino took eighth in the floor exercise after scoring a 13.500, and James Hennin was also eighth in the high bar with an 11.1


Entering his 32nd season as head men's gymnastics coach, Dr. Steve Posner is recognized as one of the most outstanding gymnastics coaches in the East. Posner led the Pride to another successful season in 2012 and was named the EIGL Coach of the Year. Read more.
