Springfield, Mass. -- May 13, 2010 -- The Williams College men have taken a one-point lead over both the University of Rochester and Moravian College after the first day of competition at the ECAC Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships under sunny skies today at Sprngfield College's Blake Track. Bates and Keene State are in fourth and fifth place entering Day Two, which will begin Friday at 10:00 am.
Williams is in first place with 20 points at the close of business on Thursday. Tied for second with 19 points each are Rochester and Moravian. In fourth is Bates with 18. Keene State is in fifth with 15.
Other teams that have scored include: T6) Bowdoin and WPI (14), 8) MIT (13), T9) Brockport, RPI, RIT (11), T12) Amherst, Conn. College, Delaware Valley, Ithaca (10), T16) Farmingdale State, NYU (6), 18) Gwynned-Mercy (4), T19) Gallaudet, Fredonia State, Ramapo (3), T22) Tufts, Penn State-Behrend (1.5), and 24) Springfield (1).
A total of 72 schools are represented in this event. Moravian is the two-time defending champion.

One of the highlights of the day was a new ECAC record in the 3000 meter steeplechase by Brian Lang of Rochester. Lang's time of 9:05.24 eclipsed the record set just one year ago by Kyle O'Brien of Cortland State. O'Brien's time was 9:09.27.
Springfield's only point thus far was provided by freshman Zach Pietras, who finished eighth in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
The meet will resume Friday at 10:00 am with the second day of the decathlon and heptathlon events.
