Springfield, Mass. - January 6, 2009 - The Springfield College men's basketball team could not overcome an early 14-point deficit as it dropped a 65-50 decision to Williams College on Tuesday evening in non-conference action.

With the loss, the Pride falls to 7-5 on the year, while Williams improves to 10-3.

Fueled by eight points from Kevin Snyder, the Ephs opened up a 14-0 lead to begin the contest, forcing Springfield head coach Charlie Brock to call a timeout with 14:42 left in the opening half. Springfield would not go away as it chipped away at Williams' lead, eventually cutting it to five after a fast-break layup by Danny White (Melrose, N.Y.) with just over two minutes remaining in the opening stanza. Springfield would go to the locker trailing by just five, 32-27. Springfield was able to stay in the game with 11 second-chance points.

Williams came out on fire to start the second half, using a 10-2 run to take a 42-29 lead after an Alex Rubin jumper. White once again pulled the Pride as close as it would get in the game as his pull-up jumper in transition made it a seven-point game, 43-36.

The Ephs were too much down the stretch as they held Springfield to just 25.9% from the floor in the second half. Williams lead by as much as 21 in the game as they outscored Springfield 33-23 in the second half.

For the Pride, Pat Crean (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) led the way with 18 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Thirteen of Crean's 18 points came in the opening stanza as he led all scorers at the break. Ryan Blackmon (Stamford, Conn.) was the only other member of the Pride in double figures as he netted 14 points. John Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) added six points and a team-best six boards. White added eight points and five boards for Springfield.

For the visiting Ephs, Snyder paced the way with 23 points, six boards, and six assists as he connected on 10-of-14 from the charity stripe. Joe Geoghegan went 7-of-10 from the floor as he pumped in 17 points, while Blake Schultz chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds. Williams finished 6-for-25 from beyond the arc and held a 37-36 advantage on the boards.

Springfield returns to action on Saturday when it travels to open up New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference play at WPI. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 pm.
