



Springfield, Mass. -- March 13, 2012 -- The Springfield College men's basketball team received a double shot in the arm today as junior guard Alex Berthiaume was named a First Team All-Northeast All-Star by both the National Association of Basketball Coaches and D3Hoops.com. Berthiaume had earlier been named the New England Women's ad Men's Athletic Conference Player of the Year.In addition, Alex had been named NEWMAC First Team All-Conference two weeks ago.
A native of Springfield, Mass., Berthiaume had a great year in leading the Pride to a berth in the finals of the NEWMAC post-season conference toumament. SC lost by five to an MIT team, which this weekend will be competing in the NCAA Division III Final Four.
Alex led the entire NEWMAC in scoring average (19.2 ppg) and total points in the regular season (519). He also ranked second in the league in steals (43) and third in assists (92). He scored 20 points or more a total of 14 times in 27 games, and reached the 30-point plateau three times. He also topped the league in average minutes per game (34.8).

Charlie Brock in 2012-13 will enter his 15th season as the head coach at Springfield College and his 33rd season as a head coach overall. Brock’s achievements as a coach are certainly impressive.
